HANDOUT for the CONFERENCE WORKSHOP (Adobe Acrobat PDF)

Hello participants.  I've been asked a couple of questions since the conference.  As I get them, I thought I'd post them here for your benefit.

-----------------------------------------------

Q: I have been able to record my lecture and save as an mp3 file but I am confused about how to get it on itunes. Can you help me along?

A: Great.  If you remember, you need to upload it next.  That means having a server located somewhere to do that.  I'm not sure what facilites you have there, but you need a media server, a course system, or just anything that will let you put the file online and get an RSS feed out of it.  You could go outside to someplace like libsyn.com.  If you sign up with them for $5/month, they make the entire process very simple.  Whatever you decide, you'll get an RSS feed out of that with a URL.

The URLs is what you would put into iTunes so people can subscribe.  Go to the iTunes store, click on Podcasts, and click on the "submit a podcast" button in the center of the screen.

So, the "getting on iTunes" is easy, it's getting a server to put your files on so you can have an RSS feed is the tricky part.  Again, someplace like libsyn makes it easy, but there may be some internal resources available to you so you wouldn't have to pay the $5/month.

-----------------------------------------------

Q: You talked about several articles that included some data on student responses to surveys. I could definitely use the info on not cutting class.  Ya know, if I had a dollar for everytime a faculty member said "but if podcast my class why will students come?".....  Could you share the citations to those articles with me?

A: Yep... I get that ALL the time.  That why I thought them important to show.  I've attached the documents here.  They have funny names to remind me what to do in them.  Sorry.
